One does not have to be a grave-digger to know that the current official death toll in Odisha is a gross understatement and the actual number of deaths is several times higher.
The Covid crisis in Odisha has refused to relent as a record 42 persons succumbed in the last 24 hours. The state has witnessed more than 80 fatalities in just two days, even as the fresh Covid-19 cases continue to remain below 9K for the fourth consecutive day.
While daily infections in Odisha continued to hover over 8k, the virus has claimed as many as 37 lives in the last 24 hours - the most in a day since the onset of the pandemic. The state's TPR stood at 14%.
Odisha on Wednesday saw its highest single day fatalities due to Covid infection, ever since the pandemic outbreak. As many as 25 patients succumbed to the contagious disease during the period pushing the death toll in the state to 2,403.
India recorded 4,205 Covid19 deaths in the past 24 hours - the highest ever single-day toll for the country that has been severely battered by the second wave of the pandemic.
