Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported one more COVID-19 death on Saturday, the day which saw the nation-wide rollout of the much-awaited vaccine by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As per State Health and Family Welfare Department, a 43 years old male Covid positive patient of Sundergarh district died in the past 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 death toll in the State to 1899.

The deceased was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, tweeted Health Department.
Apart from the COVID-19 fatality, Odisha also reported 178 new cases of coronavirus infection from different parts in the past 24 hours.

As per the I&PR department, a highest of 30 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Sundergarh district, followed by Sambalpur (24) district, Jharsuguda (23), Puri (19) ,Nuapada (16) and Bargarh (10).

As many as 16 districts of Odisha reported new COVID-19 cases in single digits. Khorda and Cuttack districts reported five and four new cases of COVID-19 infections, respectively.

With 178 new COVID-19 cases, the COVID tally in Odisha reached 3,33,127.

As per official sources, the COVID-19 active cases tally in Odisha now stands at 2,087.

It is pertinent to mention here that the COVID-19 vaccination drive began at 161 session sites across Odisha today. Over 3.28 lakh health care workers in the State would be vaccinated in the first phase.
