Minor girl rape: CM announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for victim
Bhubaneswar: Amid widespread protests by various entities against the rape of minor girl in Jatni, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the victim.
Patnaik announced the assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) and asked the district collector to ensure that the funds are disbursed as soon as possible.
Patnaik has ordered the Home department to to release the assistance at the earliest.
Meanwhile, BJP has joined the protest against the heinous crime. BJP President Basant Panda slammed the State Government claiming that women are unsafe and the law and order situation has deteriorated in the state. In protest against the State government’s lack of control over the law and order situation, the saffron party will organise State-wide protest, Panda had informed.
Notably, a nine-year old minor girl was raped at Loko Colony in Jatni of Khurda district late on Wednesday night. The incident sparked off tension in the locality with locals staging a road blockade and gheraoing Jatni police station yesterday demanding opening of a Mahila police station in the area and stringent action against the accused.
