Mineral rich District, Jharsuguda is one of the most industrially developed District of Odisha. Jharsuguda District was established on 1st January, 1994. Earlier it was a part of Sambalpur District. It was created by amalgamation of the erstwhile Jamindars of Rampur, Kolabira, Padampur and Kudabaga. Major portion of the land area covering hilly region has a radish stony soil. The economy of the Jharsuguda District can be judged through its natural resources. The District is rich in minerals like coals, quartzite and fire clay. Several industrial units like Vendanta Alumina, Bhusan Steel and Power, TATA Refractories are operating in the District that contributes to the economic growth of the District. There are also some major forest products like Kendu leaves, wood, rice and leather that also contribute significantly to the economy of Jharsuguda District.
As per reports, names of around 50 voters from ward no.17, who were supposed to cast votes in booth no 72, were found to be deleted.

According to sources, a total of 2,21,070 voters including 1,10,320 male, 1,10,687 female and 63 third gender will exercise their franchise in 253 booths. The Polling will continue till 6 pm.
The entire Jharsuguda Assembly constituency has been divided into five zones. To maintain law and order situation and ensure peaceful voting, 19 platoons of Odisha Police, 300 OR constables, 150 home guards and about 100 officers have been deployed.
While just one day is to go for the Jharsuguda bypoll, a high drama unfolded on Sunday with Laikera Zone-1 ex-Zilla Parishad member Lokendra Rout joining the BJP in the morning and returning to the BJD in the evening.
The campaigning by the political parties has hit the fever pitch in Jharsuguda as the time for campaigning will end today evening.
“The state government has to answer why an on-duty police officer killed a sitting minister. The government has to answer what is the motive behind the murder,” said Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while addressing a gathering in the district.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that the conch party is implementing the Padampur model in the Jharsuguda bypoll.

Coming down heavily on the BJD government, Panda said, “Bad governance is prevalent in the State for the past 23 years. Odisha has witnessed a 1000 times rise in the crime rate in the last one decade. Be it Mamita Meher, Naba Das or minor boy Samarth Agarwal kidnapping and murder case, the State is witnessing such crimes frequently.”
Mishra tendered his resignation to the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Chief, Sarat Patnaik, and forwarded the copies to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Mallikarjun Kharge
The campaign vehicle of the BJP was allegedly ransacked at Mangalabazaar in Jharsuguda on Sunday. As per the allegations, the BJD workers were behind the attack and also abused and thrashed the BJP members campaigning for their candidate, Tankadhar Tripathy.
