Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice President Baijayant Panda launched a scathing attack on the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) during ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ programme held in Jharsuguda district on Tuesday morning.

Coming down heavily on the BJD government, Panda said, “Bad governance is prevalent in the State for the past 23 years. Odisha has witnessed a 1000 times rise in the crime rate in the last one decade. Be it Mamita Meher, Naba Das or minor boy Samarth Agarwal kidnapping and murder case, the State is witnessing such crimes frequently.”

“Jharsuguda is marred by several issues. It is the only district in the State with no government college. Despite being an industrial hub, the local youths are jobless. The farmers are not getting tokens, while over 100 doctor posts are lying vacant in the district. Even after years of posting, police officers are not getting transferred. They are indulged in several irregularities and have nexus with the ruling government,” Panda added.

“India is prospering and the entire world is looking up to India under PM Modi’s leadership. While over 100 crore households have piped drinking water connections, lakhs of houses are being allotted to different States under PMAY. But, the western Odisha districts are deprived of the benefits. People are aware of everything and now considering a change,” the senior saffron party leader said.

Seconding Panda, party leader KV Singh Deo, who was also present at the programme, said, "Here people want to get rid of fear. A change is certainly going to take place.”

Sharing preparation for the upcoming bypoll in Jharsuguda, Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal said, “Booth management is being done properly. Our party workers are very excited.”
