Even as there was a lot of excitement among people for the Jharsuguda by-election, several voters expressed resentment as they could not exercise their franchise on Wednesday.

As per reports, names of around 50 voters from ward no.17, who were supposed to cast votes in booth no 72, were found to be deleted.

“When I came to the booth to cast vote, I was told that I was not eligible as my name has been deleted. I have received a ‘Chirkoot’ (slip issued by political parties), but the booth officials did not allowed me,” said a voter.

Another voter said, “The concerned anganwadi teacher should be asked why the names of so many voters were deleted from the list.”

“I had exercised my franchise in the last municipality elections. How can my name be deleted? We do not understand the process,” said another voter.

The voters, who could not cast their votes, appeared upset as officials could not give clear information regarding the deletion of their names from the voters’ list.
