Jharsuguda bypoll LIVE UPDATES: 75.6 per cent voter turnout recorded till 7pm

The polling for the by-election to Jharsuguda assembly constituency began at 7 am on Wednesday amid tight security measures. According to sources, a total of 2,21,070 voters including 1,10,320 male electors, 1,10,687 women and 63 of the third gender will exercise their franchise in 253 booths. The Polling will continue till 6 pm. Though nine candidates are in the fray, the contest is mainly between the BJD, BJP and Congress. The BJD has fielded Das's daughter Deepali Das, while the BJP has nominated Tankadhar Tripathy. The Congress has fielded Tarun Pandey, the son of late MLA Biren Pandey. All the three candidates are debutant contestants.

The Jharsuguda bypoll recorded 75.6 per cent voter turnout till 7pm. As per reports, voting in five more booths were still continuing after 7pm. Final polling percentage will be announced tomorrow by the Chief Electoral Officer.

As the political temperature rose in Jharsuguda with the beginning of the bypoll for the assembly Constituency on Wednesday, the voting percentage as recorded by the Election Commission till 3 pm was 55.2 per cent.
