Gajapati District has been named after Maharaja Sri Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deo, the Ex–Raja Sahib of Paralakhemundi estate (the 1st Prime Minister of Odisha State), who is remembered for his contribution in formation of a separate Odisha province and inclusion of Paralakhemundi estate in Odisha. This district has famous for the Buddhist temple, the highest in South Asia at Chandragiri. Tibetan refugees’ settlement at Chandragiri is another place for the tourist to visit.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that after the formation of a Depression, the system will intensify into a ‘Cyclonic Storm’ over Central Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours.
The low-pressure system formed over the Central Andaman Sea has been active and will intensify into Depression by tomorrow while moving in the West-Southwest direction, informed the Bhubaneswar Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per the IMD, a low pressure area lies over South Thailand and neighbourhood and it is likely to emerge into Andaman Sea in the next 12 hours.
