The family members of an Odia migrant worker, who reportedly died at Kabilapatta in Tamil Nadu, have alleged that he was murdered and now some agents are demanding money to send his body back to Odisha.

The deceased migrant worker, identified as Sarat Parichha, from Mohana area, was working as a labourer in the south Indian State.

According to the family members of the deceased, Sarat had called his relatives a couple of days back and said he was being subjected to torture.

Later, some middlemen sent the photographs of Sarat’s body and demanded Rs 15,000 to send his body to Bhubaneswar, kin of the deceased alleged.

“The middlemen send the photographs of his (Sarat) body through WhatsApp using his mobile phone. Later, another person texted that they have killed my brother.  I urge the government to help us to bring back my brother’s body and take stringent action against involved in the crime,” alleged Suraj Parichha, brother of the deceased.

“Sarat was working in Tamil Nadu. We have informed the district administration about Sarat’s death and we are in touch with them. An investigation into matter is on,” said Subhant Kumar Panda, Adaba police station in charge.

Gajapati district labour officer Loknath Panda said, “The family members of the deceased have no clue where he died and where his body was kept. As soon as we get the required information, we will make arrangements to bring the body back.”
