SCB nursing students put stir on hold

Bhubaneswar: Students of SCB nursing school Wednesday put their 18-day-long agitation on hold after a discussion with Health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak this morning.

The students said they were assured by the Health minister that their demands will be fulfilled and action taken on the issue.

A nursing student said, “We started our agitation on May 8. Since then, we have met officials several times. But nothing came out of these meetings. We had decided to start a 24X7 dharna from today. But this morning, the Health minster asked us to meet him and assured us to give justice and take appropriate action in the matter. Therefore, we are postponing our stir.”

Another nursing student, who levelled misbehavior charges against the Principal, said, “After 17-18 days of our strike, the Health minster today gave assurance to fulfill the demands.”

Elaborating about the incident, the complainant added, “The Principal beat me and passed a casteist remark. She said: “Your caste is low and you will remain the same.” The Principal does not have rights to beat anyone. Even we had not expected her to behave like this.”

Notably, the nursing students were demanding dismissal of the principal and lifting of the sine die declared by the nursing school.
