Political link behind seizure of explosives suspected

Bhubaneswar: With recovery of more than 30 crude bombs from the premises of a soft drinks godown at Jharpada area in the city and arrest of five accused, the Police are apprehending political link behind the incident.

Even as the senior police officials are tight-lipped, they said all the five persons arrested for possessing the explosives were acting under the direction of Kunu Jena, one of the accused involved in attack on Chief Minister’s personal secretary VK Pandian’s house.

Police today interrogated Kunu’s brother over the incident.

Asked, Kunu’s brother has said that there is a political conspiracy working against his brother. “We don’t know anything about the bombs. Since my brother was to be released on bail today, it is a political conspiracy for not letting him free,” he said.

As a part of its crackdown on anti-social elements, police on Thursday, raided a soft drinks godown and seized 30 crude bombs and arrested five persons. The arrested  have been identified as Subhasish Sahani of Athagarh, Jyotiprakash Mohanty of Puri, Debaraj Naik of Athagarh, Pabana Naik of Dhenkanal and Sipun Kumar Kabi of Athagarh.

“From preliminary investigation, it has been proved that the accused had prepared 35 bombs and used three of them for bombing in Jharpada,” Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.

The accused are involved in several criminal cases including a bombing case in Jharpada and a series of other cases in Angul, Cuttack and Dhenkanal.

Raids are also being conducted on suspected hideouts to nab the others involved.
