Christians in Bhubaneswar celebrate Easter Sunday

Bhubaneswar: Churches in Bhubaneswar were crowded today morning, with Christians attending the Easter Sunday Mass. Christians also gathered last night to attend the vigil mass.

A fire is lit every year at the opening of the Easter Vigil and is blessed. The Paschal candle is the first candle to be lit with a flame from this sacred fire, representing the light of Christ coming into the world. It represents the resurrected Christ, as a symbol of life banishing death.

Christians celebrate Easter commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, as mentioned in the New Testament of the Holy Bible. Jesus rose from the dead, as he had prophesied, on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary.
