Emergency Landing Of Indigo Flight At Bhubaneswar Airport: Passenger Dies Of Heart-Attack

In a tragic incident, a passenger who suffered a heart attack while travelling on a flight en-route from Kolkata to Hyderabad, died at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Thursday evening. 

As per reports, the passenger identified as Jayabrat Ghosh, was travelling with four of his family members on the Kolkata-Hyderabad Indigo flight today. However, while on-air, Ghosh suffered a heart attack. He was immediately attended to by a doctor who was also his co-passenger and was advised for immediate medical attention. 

Considering his (Ghosh) deteriorating health condition and need for immediate medical attention, the flight was diverted and landed at Bhubaneswar airport. He was immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital and underwent emergency treatment. 

However, he died while undergoing treatment, sources said.

102 Kg Ganja Seized, 8 Arrested In Kandhamal

Phiringia Police has arrested eight persons, including a minor boy, while they were allegedly transporting around 102 kg ganja at Kuduki Ghati in Kandhamal district, informed SP Vinit Agarwal on Wednesday.

Police have also seized two cars, one country-made pistol, two live ammunition, four mobile phones and Rs 27,000 in cash from their possession, said reports.

“Acting on a tipoff, a police team under the supervision of Phiringia IIC seized 102 kg ganja from the two cars at Kuduki Ghati and arrested eight persons in connection with the incident,” informed Phulbani Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), M.N Murmu.

The minor boy has been identified as a resident of Uttar Pradhan while another hails from Bihar and the rest six youths are natively from Kandhamal district, added reports.

Odisha Reports 602 New Covid Cases In Last 24 Hours

Odisha reported 602 new Covid-19 positive cases, including 96 infections in the 0-18 years age groupm in the last 24 hours. With these new cases, the State's positive tally has mounted to 10,26,476.

Of the fresh cases reported today, 353 are from quarantine centres while the rest 249 are local contact cases, informed the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Khordha district reported the highest 283 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Cuttack (54) and Mayurbhanj (31).

On the other hand, the death toll due to Covid-19 surged to 8,198 after six more patients succumbed to the virus.

Odisha currently has 5,642 active cases while 10,12,583 patients have recovered so far, including 596 on Wednesday.

The State has so far tested 1,99,00,532 samples for Covid-19, including 58,635 in the last 24 hours.

2 Killed As Autorickshaw, Truck Collide Head-On In Bolangir

Two persons were killed while one got critically injured when the autorickshaw they were travelling in collided with a goods-laden truck at Luhurapali in Bolangir along National Highway No 26 on Thursday.

Pipili Bypoll: EVM Glitches Disrupt Polling At 3 Booths

Polling reportedly got disrupted at booths number 139-A and 177, and also at booth number 203 of Dakhina Sahi in Nuasasan village due to technical glitches. Voting began for the by-election to the Pipili Assembly Constituency in Puri district today.

Wearing mask, maintaining social distancing and use of sanitiser have been made compulsory for the voters and the polling officials. Adherence to other Covid appropriate behaviour is also being ensured at all the booths.

Till the last report came in, voting had started at booth number 203 after the malfunction in the EVM was fixed by the concerned authorities.
