'Crorepati' Anganwadi Worker: Assets Worth Over Rs 4 Crore Unearthed during House Search

Assets worth over Rs 4 crore have been unearthed during searches at the multiple houses belonging to Koradakanta Anganwadi worker Kabita Mathan so far, the State Vigilance Directorate said on Tuesday. Earlier today, the Vigilance sleuths had launched a raid on the properties of the Anganwadi worker Kabita Mathan on charges of amassing disproportionate assets.

Four buildings including one four storeyed building, one triple storeyed building and two double storeyed buildings at Bhubaneswar and 14 plots, including 10 at Bhubaneswar, 3 at Talakusuma, Jagatsinghpur and 1 plot at Balianta, Khordha belonging to Mathan have been found, the Vigillance stated in a press note.


Apart from these immovable properties, the anti-corruption sleuths claimed to have laid their hands on one four wheeler, three two wheelers, apart from insurance deposits amounting to over Rs. 2.2 lakh, gold ornaments weighing approximately 212 grams (worth over Rs.6.36 lakh) and other movable and immovable properties belonging to her. The total assets unearthed during house searches so far are worth over Rs 4 crore, the Vigillance department stated adding that further searches are on at her premises.

Pipili Bypoll: Union Ministers, Party National VP Among BJP's Star Campaigners

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released the list of 20 star campaigners for the upcoming Pipili bypoll, which includes Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw, Dharmendra Pradhan and Bishweswar Tudu along with party’s National Vice-President Baijayant Panda.

The bypoll to the Assembly constituency, which was necessitated following the death of sitting MLA Pradeep Maharathy in October last year, will be held on September 30 while the counting of votes will be carried out on October 3.

6-Yr-Old Girl Killed, 6 Critical In Wall Collapse At Odisha’s Aska

In a tragic incident, a six-year-old girl was killed while six more children sustained injury after a wall collapsed on them at Rasibadi Ramchandrapur village under Dharakote police station in Aska, on Tuesday.

According to sources, the mishap took place when the children were playing near a house in the village. Suddenly a wall of the house gave way and fell on the children, killing one of them on the spot while leaving the rest injured. 

The injured children have been admitted to the Dharakote hospital, sources informed.

3 Held By Odisha Police From Jharkhand For Duping People

The Odisha Police has arrested three people from Jharkhand's Jamtara district for impersonating as customer care operators of companies and duping people of lakhs of rupees across the country.

Acting on a complaint by a trader in Kesinga, the Kalahandi Police had conducted raids at a few villages in Karmatar block of Jamtara last week.

The trio - Mohd Sajjad (26), Abdul Ansari (22) and Raees Ansari (18) - were arrested on Monday and brought to Odisha, a police officer said.

The accused placed advertisements under various brand names, mentioning their phone numbers as those of customer care agents, he said.

When gullible customers shared their bank details, the miscreants used the details to withdraw money from their accounts, police said.

The trio changed their phone numbers and SIM cards often to avoid detection, they added.
