Panikoili Police has arrested seven persons, including two transgenders and a minor, for allegedly killing two youths whose bodies were recovered from an under-construction bridge along NH-16 in Jajpur district on September 3.

While five of the accused have been identified as the residents of Bhadrak district, the rest two persons are from Jajpur district.

“After the registration of the case on September 3, police were investigating the case and arrested seven persons, including a child in conflict with the law (CCL). They have been forwarded to the Court,” Jajpur SP Rahul PR.

The CCL will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

The SP said that the two youths had an altercation with six of the seven accused. Later, the seven, as per plan, first murdered the two youths identified as Bijay Sahoo and Manas Ranjan Das of Janha village in the district and then reconstructed the crime scene so that it would look like the two were killed in a road accident.

Sahoo was an auto-driver while Das was working in a private company that deals in cosmetics.

Based on the findings of the Call Detail Record, tower dump analysis, and interrogation of the accused persons with the help of the scientific team, Panikoili Police managed to crack the case, added the Jajpur SP.
