In a bizarre turn of events in the alleged kidnapping of a delivery boy in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police on Tuesday claimed that ‘Swiggy’ delivery boy Patitapabana Prusty alias Chikun had made up the kidnapping drama to elope with a girl from Gop in Puri district.
Prusty along with the girl have been tracked down at Katia railway station in Madhya Pradesh where the Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained them following intimation by the Commissionerate Police.
Deputy Commisioner of Police (DCP), Umashankar Dash told reporters on Tuesday that a team from the Dhauli police has left for MP to get the couple back.
Sources said the police got the lead in the ‘fake’ kidnapping case while going through Prusty’s mobile call records and checking CCTV footages.

“After we received a complaint about the kidnapping of a youth last Saturday, a team of Commissionerate Police started investigation. Yesterday, we learnt that the youth was seen travelling with a girl in a train. On being alerted, the RPF in Madhya Pradesh (MP) detained them and sent us their photographs for identification,” Dash said.
He said the Dhauli Police Station team, led by the IIC will question them in MP before bringing them back.
“After the youth and the girl are brought back, the details of the case will be known. However, as per our investigation, we have found that the youth fled voluntarily and there is no abduction in his disappearance,” stated Dash.
Meanwhile, the family members of the girl who has reportedly been found with Prusty at Katia Railway Station, have filed a case against the latter at Gop Police Station. They accused Prusty of abducting the girl with whom he was allegedly into a relationship.
Based on the complaint, Gop Police has started an investigation and seized a hand-written reportedly left behind by the ‘missing’ girl.
After receiving the news of detention of Prusty with the girl at a Madhya Pradesh railway station, his wife said, “The girl is responsible for what has happened. My husband is innocent and the family members of the girl are also involved in it. I will ask him (Prusty) who he wants to live with. If he choses her, I will file a complaint against him and ensure he lands up in jail,” she added.
The family members of the missing girl meanwhile blamed Prusty for orchestrating the incident. “He (Prusty) used to visit our house and even gifted a mobile phone to her. She never suspected anything and is innocent. Prusty is responsible for everything,” alleged the missing girl’s father.
It may be noted that Prusty’s wife and family members had filed an FIR with the Commissionerate Police on September 12 alleging his kidnapping by some miscreants from near Daya river road at Lingipur area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Prusty had reportedly sent a distress voice message to his wife at around 9 pm on September 11 about his kidnapping by some drunk men. Prusty lives with his wife and family at Nuagaon Bijayvihar area in a rented accommodation
Following the complaint, police launched a search operation and recovered his slippers, bag and knife from the roadside near the spot informed by Prusty in the voice message.
