Cruelty toward animals is one of the major concerns across the world. Be it domestic or wild animals, there are several instances of extreme animal torture. While some animals get tortured just for fun, others suffer cruelty to death. Human-animal conflicts are quite prevalent when wild animals venture into human habitats.

However, a recent video will leave you anguished in which a group of villagers can be seen pelting stones at an elephant calf.

In the video, a group of villagers including children can be seen pelting stones at the elephant calf wandering in the village. The calf seems to be frightened while searching for a hideout.

The video shared on Twitter by Nandan Pratim Sharma Bordoloi has gone viral on social media. The description for the post reads: Elephant calf separated from mother wandering around in fear & hunger. Calf was attacked throwing stones. Adults should explain this to children. Or, they are not worthy parents. Having children is not a pride; it's more proud to be a successful parent. Today in Jamuguri, Assam. (sic)

Several netizens vented out their anger over the incident and slammed the people and children pelting stones at the calf. Netizens also slammed the parents of the children for such an upbringing that encourages being cruel toward the calf.

Indian Forest Services (IFS) official Susanta Nanda reshared the post with a caption reading: Sad & shattered. Are we going to be a nation of stone pelters? Education has no meaning if the children can’t be compassionate to living beings. Moreover, there is something terrible wrong in their up bringing. No law can stop this  (sic)
The disturbing visuals certainly show sheer inhumanity and unnecessary cruelty towards animals.
