As per the tradition, the construction work of the three chariots of Lord Jagannath and His sibling deities in Puri begins on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. 

This year, Akshaya Tritiya will fall on May 10 and the preparations for chariot construction are in the last stage. 

While 14 logs of Phasi Tree were recently received at Puri in the fourth phase, in the earlier three phases, as many as 166 logs were received. 

On Akshaya Tritiya, a yajna is performed at the chariot construction yard. Then divine garland of consent (Agyan Mala) of Lord Jagannath,

Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra is brought to the yard. After the consecration of three Dhaura timbers, the Biswakarma and Maharana servitors begin the construction work with gold and silver axes. 

On this day, the 21-day-long Chandan Yatra of the Holy Trinity also starts. As per the time table finalised, ‘Dwadasha Yatra and Nakshatra Vandapana’, ‘Dian Bije’ and ‘Ratha Agyan Mala Bije’ will be performed at 3 pm, 3.30 pm and 4 pm, respectively on May 10. The lavishly decorated palanquins of the deities will be lifted at 4 pm and the deities will return at 10 pm. 

All the sevayat nijogs have joined hands to ensure the completion of rituals in time and without any disruptions.
