Be it narcotics or cash, the enforcement agencies swing into action during elections which is part of the strategy adopted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for free and fair polls.

The surveillance has also been stepped up in Odisha which is set for the second phase of polling on May 20. Huge cash has been seized in two separate incidents in Bhubaneswar and Sonepur districts.

In Sonepur, Rs 3.40 lakh cash was seized from an SUV near Gania village during a motor vehicle inspection. Sources said that cash belongs to two poultry traders who have been detained as they could not provide any satisfactory answer regarding the cash.

Earlier, Rs 55.20 lakh was seized near Binika college chhak area last month. Police had also seized over Rs 1 lakh from a two-wheeler rider on April 28 in the district.

Similarly, Rs 1.5 lakh cash was also seized from a luxury vehicle in Bhubaneswar on Saturday night. The cash was seized by a joint team including police officials near Dream City along the Nandankanan-Bhubaneswar road.

Meanwhile, no comments could be obtained from police officials regarding the seizure of the cash.
