Keeping elections in view, the Commissionerate Police has intensified raids on liquor and narcotics in the twin cities.

From January till date, police have seized 2,259 litres of foreign liquor and 11,300 litres of country liquor in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, police said.

According to police, as many as 645 people were arrested and produced in court in connection with liquor smuggling while 258 excise cases were detected in Bhubaneswar.    

Moreover, police have seized over 1175 gms of brown sugar and arrested 81 people.

Addressing a presser, Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said, "We have executed non-bailable arrest warrants against 438 persons in Bhubaneswar while the same has been done against 429 in Cuttack.”

He added that as many as 11 guns and 24 live bullets have been seized. People have submitted 1,504 licensed guns at police stations in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. 

Police have registered cases against 303 persons under section 10 of CrPC while 177 accused have been arrested, he said, adding that a company of CAPF is stationed in Bhubaneswar while a joint flag march is being carried out in sensitive areas.
