Odia pride is under threat and Odia language is in danger, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During an interview with a national news channel, the Prime Minister said, "Odia language and Odisha’s asmita (pride) are under threat. I don’t think Odisha people will tolerate it for long.”

Commenting on why the BJP parted ways with the BJD, Narendra Modi said, "The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) used to support us based on issues. Many other parties also give us issue-based support. Our relation with the BJD in the state is different."

Stating that Odisha is rich in natural resources, the Prime Minister said the state is so endowed that it should have been the number one state, but 'we all can see what's the current situation of Odisha'.

“In such a situation, we think, we should get the chance to serve Odisha. If we get the chance, we will take Odisha to the pinnacle of development,” he added.

PM Modi's statement came at a time when many BJP leaders have been raising the issue of Odia asmita.

No comments were received from the BJD.
