The district administration and police have imposed restrictions on victory celebrations by political parties in Puri on the vote counting day.
Such a move came after the firecracker tragedy near Narendra Puskarini during Chandan Yatra in which the death toll has gone up to 13.

To ward off such tragic and untoward incidents, district and police administration restricted victory processions, the use of DJ music and bursting of crackers.

Speaking to the media, Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain said, “As vote counting will be held tomorrow, to prevent any untoward incidents, victory procession, DJ celebrations, firecracker bursting and other celebratory activities will not be allowed tomorrow.”

‘We seek the cooperation of all. An order will be issued. All the candidates in the fray will be apprised of the restrictions,” he added.

The Collector also said that restrictions have been imposed on unnecessary crowding outside the counting centre to maintain law and order.
