T20 World Cup 2024: Former England captain accuses ICC of favouring India

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has accused the ICC of favouring India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He suggested the first semi-final should have been between India and England, not South Africa and Afghanistan. Vaughan claims the schedule was drafted to suit India, who have not played any day-night matches.

Ahead of the second semifinal, former England captain Michael Vaughan has accused the International Cricket Council (ICC) of favouring India in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

According to Vaughan, the first semi-final should have been between India and the Jos Buttler-led team. However, the apex body drafted the schedule to suit the sub-continent team.

“Surely this Semi should have been the Guyana one .. but because the whole event is geared towards India it’s so unfair on others,” Vaughan wrote on X (earlier known as Twitter).

Notably, the first semifinal of the marquee event was played between South Africa and Afghanistan and it was a day-night affair. On the other hand, India didn’t play a single day-night match in the mega event.

Team India is currently going through a dream run in the tournament as they are undefeated in the ongoing T20 World Cup so far. They beat Ireland, Pakistan and the USA in the group stage. The match against Canada was called off due to rain.

In the Super 8 stage, Rohit Sharma-led team defeated Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia to qualify for the semi-finals.
