Former Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Marik on Saturday said that he would file a defamation suit against retired IPS officer M. Nageswara Rao for dragging his name in a government land scam in Bhubaneswar.

Addressing a presser in Bhubaneswar, Marik said Nageswara Rao is settling an old score with him.

There was a time when Nageswara Rao was the IG of the CRPF, and Marik was ADG (Operations). At that time, a commandant was killed for wrongful deployment of CRPF. Then, Marik wrote a letter to the government seeking action against Nageswara Rao.

Marik alleged that Nageswara Rao is exacting revenge on him for his letter to the government against him.

He said his son has purchased land after verifying the documents and has not bought any government land.

“Nageswara Babu has brought a false allegation against me. I have documents to prove his allegations baseless. I will definitely file a defamation case against him,” said Marik.

No reaction was received from Nageswara Rao over Marik’s counter-allegation.

Earlier on Thursday, Nageswara Rao, who claims to be a victim of the land fraud, made shocking allegations that government lands were sold by land mafia in cahoots with powerful people including IAS and IPS officers in the State.

"I lodged an FIR in 2015, but they did not register my case when Sanjeev Marik was the DGP. So many powerful people are involved in this," he had said.
