Sambalpur: A teacher of the Brooks hill Upper Primary school here was today thrashed by the guardians of a student of the school for allegedly showing obscene photographs to the girl students.
Police later detained the accused.
The Physical Education Instructor of the school, Gopala Krushna Behera, had allegedly shown the obscene photographs to the students in the school, located in Sakhipara area under the Dhanupali police station of the city, on December 1, police said after a case was registered against Behera at Dhanupali police station in the district.
Guardians said that the matter came to light after a girl student, who is studying in class VI of the school, informed about the behaviour of the teacher to her elder sister who apprised the school authorities.
Alleging no action was taken against the teacher, the family members of the student came to the school, thrashed the teacher before police could rescue him from the girl’s family members.
The assistant head mistress of the school, Sarita Panda however, said, “We had called a parents’ meeting in the school after the girl brought the matter to our notice on December 1.
The teacher had apologised in front of everybody at the meeting. We also informed our higher authority about the incident on that day.”
The Block Education Officer, Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra said, “The teacher was deployed in the school on part-time basis.
However, we are inquiring into the matter. Appropriate action will be taken against the teacher after inquiry.”
“We have registered a case in the police station in this connection. The teacher has been detained. We are inquiring into the matter,” said Inspector-in-charge of Dhanupali police station, S Barik.
The accused teacher Gopala Krushna Behera, however, denied the charge. “Some mischievous students opened my purse and showed the pictures to girl students,” the teacher claimed.
