CBI seeks statements of rape video accused
Bhubaneswar: In a significant development to the VSS Nagar rape video which was circulated in social media, the CBI today sought to record the statements of two accused.
The central investigating agency prayed before the special CBI court here to record the statements of prime accused Subrat Sahu alias Kalia and his aide Devasish Dev alias Bunty.
While Sahu (45) was arrested by the agency sleuths in March from Phulnakhara area near the capital city, Dev (30) was held from Cuttack a month later.
During investigation, the CBI found that Dev, on the instruction of Sahu, a builder in the state capital, had allegedly filmed the sexual act of Sahu with a 24-year old woman. Later, the video clip was circulated through a mobile messaging application.
Meanwhile the sleuths have seized pen-drives, hard disks containing porn clips and a bunch of CDs from both the residential plots which reportedly belonged to Kalia and one of his relatives.
It may be noted that a case in this connection was registered at Saheed Nagar police station in 2010 after the objectionable videos came to light. The Commissionerate Police, however, was unable to arrest the prime accused.
Later, Prajwala, a Hyderabad-based NGO filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the latter’s intervention in the matter. The apex court had then directed the CBI to probe into the case.
The Supreme Court had also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on the State Government for its failure to remain present during previous hearing of the case on March 13 and respond to the court’s notice.
