Subarnapur: The farmers’ dharna demanding crop insurance dues at Mursundi entered third day on Friday.
The State government had announced Mursundi panchayat drought affected about 94% in 2011-12. Villagers, who had insured their crops, got money, but those who had taken loans from State Bank of India did not get a penny despite the fact that they had paid the premium.
The farmers, who had observed a strike in 2013 demanding the insurance amount, had got assurances from the district administration earlier. But the promises are yet to be fulfilled.
Since September 9, the farmers have been staging the dharna while locking the bank’s gate. They have threatened to continue with their protest until the demands are not met.
