Malkangiri: At least two more Maoists have been gunned down by the security forces during a combing operation in Panasput forest in the district on Thursday. Notably 28 Red rebels were killed in a joint operation by Andhra and Odisha forces two days back.
Sources said the extremists were hiding deep inside the forest. On knowing that the forces are approaching towards them, they started firing. The security personnel retaliated and in the exchange of fire two Maoists died on the spot.
The forces have seized some ammunition and Maoist literature from them.
Meanwhile, locals informed the police that six villagers of Jodamba in the district are missing since the anti-Maoist operation on Monday in which 24 Rebels were killed in the ambush. Two days after the ambush, four more Maoists were gunned down in Panasput forest in the district.
They said that the rebels had handpicked six villagers, including three women, on Sunday night to prepare food for them. But they have not returned to home since then.
Police said they are looking into the matter.
