Bhubaneswar: Of total 4,850 existing high schools in the state, 1192 are over 50 year old and 41 of them are 100-year-old. Steps are being undertaken by the Rural Works department for infrastructure development of the schools that have completed 50 years of establishment.
Informing this in reply to a question of BJD member Amar Prasad Satpathy in the State Assembly today, School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said some fund allocation provisions have been made on behalf of Rural Development (RD) and Public Works Department (PWD) for restoration and development of these schools.
On the other hand, Congress chief whip Taraprasad Bahinipati demanded construction of boundary walls of all schools across the state. He alleged that the recommendation of the Standing Committee on high school infrastructure development has not been implemented.
