Former BJD Minister and Kakatpur MLA Surendranath Naik breathed his last at his residence in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Naik, 93, was reportedly suffering from age-related ailments. He was a 7-time MLA and a close aide of former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed grief over the demise of the former BJD Minister. Conveying condolences to Naik's family, Majhi termed his death a great loss to the State. BJP VP and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda expressed condolences over the death of Naik and said, "Deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Surendranath Naik, a senior politician, former minister of Odisha govt, 7-time MLA and a close associate and loyalist of Biju Babu. I had a personal and political acquaintance with Surendra Babu. May the bereaved soul rest in peace...." The former Kakatpur MLA was given 'guard of honour' on Odisha Assembly premises. Speaker Surama Padhy, CM Mohan Majhi, Deputy CMs Pravati Parida and KV Singh Deo and others paid their tribute to Naik.
