You may have eaten various types of mushrooms, but the taste of this one is unique. This is Oyster Mushroom, cultivated by a female entrepreneur In Koraput.
This is Kamala Kumari Mishra from the village of Badkaundi in Jeypore. After freeing herself from family responsibilities, Kamala decided to start something at home. She was drawn to Oyster mushroom farming after seeing it on social media.
She contacted the Horticulture Department and received training in mushroom cultivation. Kamala started farming, and it’s been a year since she began.
In a small cottage, Kamala has now built over 100 beds for mushroom cultivation. She spent only 10,000 rupees and is now earning a daily profit of 1,000 rupees.
She believes that with more government support, her earnings could increase. The market price for oyster mushrooms is between 200 to 250 rupees per kilogram. Compared to other mushrooms, this is tastier and yields more when cooked, making it the first choice for customers.
Koraput district’s climate is ideal for mushroom farming. As a result, the Horticulture Department has encouraged many women farmers to try mushroom cultivation.
Compared to other forms of farming, mushroom cultivation requires a smaller investment and yields higher profits, boosting farmers' enthusiasm for this venture.
