A controversy has erupted after Maharastra based NCP leader Jitendra Awhad stated that Lord Ram was a non-vegetarian. The leader was heard saying that Lord Ram couldn’t live in the jungle for 14 years being a vegetarian. The statements triggered a storm in the political and religious corridors as it came at a time when BJP was demanding ban on non-vegetarian food and alcohol on the consecration ceremony of Ayodhya Ram Mandir on January 22. Jitendra Awhad said and we quote, “Ram is ours. Of us Bahujans. Who used to hunt to eat… Ram was never a vegetarian. He was a non-vegetarian. How can a man who lived in the jungle for 14 years remain a vegetarian.” In protest of this, BJP leader Ram Kadam filed a police complaint against the NCP -Sharad Pawar faction leader Jitendra Awhad.
