In 2018, the UGC set the criteria for recruitment for entry-level posts at universities and colleges. It gave a three-year window to candidates to complete their PhDs and asked all universities and colleges to start applying the criteria for recruitment from the 2021-22 academic session.

The exam began on Sunday. CUET-UG Phase one is being conducted in 271 cities and more than 447 centres from May 21 to 25. The exams are being held in three shifts. As per the NTA, the CUET (UG) - 2023 will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) Mode for about 14.99 lakh candidates at various examination centres located in 295 cities across India and abroad.
