In the likelihood of Cyclone Yaas hitting the shores of Odisha, the Minister of Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water, Law, Housing and Urban Development on Sunday reviewed the preparedness and directed to strictly follow the SOP and instructions in this regard.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has started positioning rescue teams in Odisha ahead of impending cyclone ‘Yaas’, which is expected to make landfall somewhere between Paradip and Sagar Islands on May 26 as per the present prediction made by the India Meteorological Department (IMD)
As cyclone Yaas comes closer to make landfall on the east coast of India, the Eastern Railway has cancelled 25 running through this route.
In view of the threat posed by the approaching cyclonic storm 'Yaas', 22 NDRF teams have been deployed in the coastal districts of Odisha as of now.
"This is in preparation for the approaching Cyclone Yaas and the operations are ongoing since May 21. To date, the IAF has airlifted 606 personnel and 57 tonnes of load for this purpose."

Cyclonic storm 'Yaas' is likely to make landfall between Odisha's Paradip and Sagar Islands, the southern-most part of West Bengal. According to the Director General of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the cyclone will hit the coastline as a very severe cyclonic storm and it will have a sustained wind speed of 155 to 165 kmph during the landfall.
