Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Yaas Nears Odisha-WB Coast With Ferocious Intensity 

The very severe cyclonic storm Yaas has already started to batter the northern coastline of Odisha with powerful winds and rain as it is set to make landfall in a few hours from now. As per the statement of the India Meteorological Department, the storm will cross the Odisha-Bengal coasts to the north of Dhamra and south of Balasore around noon today with sustained wind speed of 130 to 140 kmph.

Tornado Hits Hooghly And North 24 Parganas

Just a few hours before the landfall of 'Yass' a miniature tornado created havoc in parts of Hooghly and North 24 Parganas on Tuesday evening. Though the weather department said that these kinds of tornadoes are common ahead of a major cyclone but also admitted that it is very unlikely at a place which is nearly 210 kilometres away from the landfall.

#CycloneYaas Landfall Delayed, May Start Around 10-11 AM: Odisha SRC Pradeep Jena

The velocity of very severe cyclonic storm Yaas has now decreased to 12 km per hour from 15-16 km per hour. According to Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena, due to decrease in the velocity of the cyclone, the landfall is likely to be delayed and will be around 10-11 AM at a wind speed of around 130 kmph.

Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Yaas is just 70 Kms away from Dhamra. According to the latest update of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Yaas is 70 Kms away from Bhadrak's Dhamra, while it is 90 kms away from Paradip and about 130 kms away from Balasore district.
