Balasore: At a time when the State machinery is busy in evacuating people from the line of fire of Cyclone Yaas, allegations of mismanagement at a cyclone shelter in Baunshagadia village under Balasore’s Bahanaga block dampened the spirit of other people who wanted to shift to shelter points.
As per reports, the cyclone shelter at Baunshagadia is hosting 20 persons who have left their home to take refuge there by the request of local administration. The people alleged that they have got only dry food since Monday evening when they were shifted and no cooked food was provided to them till now.
They also alleged that the shelter does not have electricity connection, so they were forced to live in the dark last night and if their request is not heard soon enough, they will have to suffer tonight too.
Kailash Chandra Singh, a local said, “People aren’t getting food at those shelter points. So, I cannot go there to starve my children.”
Similarly, the villagers of Kalamagadia under Inchudi panchayat in Balasore did not want to move to the shelter points alleging lack of basic amenities.
“We do not want to move to the cyclone shelters fearing COVID infection. There is no food, no electricity,” a local youth alleged.
