In Bhubaneswar, a man and a woman, described as a high-profile couple, were caught on CCTV stealing cash from a garment shop on Lewis Road. The duo distracted the sales staff to commit the theft and fled before being noticed.

In Bhubaneswar, a man named Akshay Behera allegedly tried to murder his wife by running her over with a pick-up van due to unrequited love for her sister. The attack, captured on CCTV, left the victim critically injured and sparked legal actions against Akshay.

Bhubaneswar experienced a historic heat wave, recording temperatures of 40°C or above for 17 consecutive days in April, surpassing the previous record from 1969.

Following a court order, the Commissionerate Police had earlier tried to ascertain the owners of the seized vehicles.  Some owners were identified and their vehicles were handed over to them by examining their credentials and documents.

According to official reports, Sundargarh reported the highest number of heat-wave-related illness cases at 60, followed by Mayurbhanj with 50 cases.

The IMD issued a red alert for severe heatwave conditions in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius. This extreme heat, persisting for over 17 days, poses significant challenges for residents of Odisha.

Chandrasekharpur Police seized the cash and started an investigation into the source of the money, its destination and its purpose of use. According to sources, the person in the car failed to furnish satisfactory replies about the source and destination of the money.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar recorded 42.7 degrees Celsius, Chandbali 42.2 degrees Celsius, Balasore 41.4 degrees Celsius, Rourkela 40.6 degrees Celsius, Jharsuguda 39.9 degrees Celsius and Sambalpur 39.4 degrees Celsius by 2.30 pm.

Students at Rama Devi Women's University in Bhubaneswar protested to postpone their semester exams, citing severe heatwave conditions in Odisha. They argue that the hostile weather impedes their ability to perform academically, noting that other universities have already delayed exams.

BJP leader Mohan Majhi said, "The Home Minister has advised all party leaders to work with confidence. He said if the party could win polls in states with 2 to 6 per cent of votes, there would be no hurdles in Odisha, where it got 34 per cent votes in 2019."

Speaking to the media, one of the detainees said, "We are from Delhi. Police detained us for carrying this snake. We were asking for alms by showing the snake.”
