Woman, sister-in-law attempt suicide; critical

Aska: In a tragic incident, a woman and her sister-in-law on Saturday attempted suicide by setting themselves on fire at Babanpur village in Aska in Ganjam district.

The victims have been identified as Anita Nayak, wife of former sarpanch of the village and her sister-in-law Bishnupriya Nayak.

According to sources, Anita and Bishnupriya had a quarrel over some family dispute. In a fit of rage, the duo attempted suicide by pouring kerosene on them and setting them on fire.

While attempting to rescue them, their son-in-law also sustained burn injuries, the sources added.

The duo were admitted to a Berhampur hospital and their condition is stated to be critical.

While Bishnupriya sustained 70 per cent burn injuries, 40 per cent body of Anita was burnt due to the fire, sources added
