Two landmines diffused in Rayagada

Rayagada: Security personnel on Wednesday diffused two landmines planted by the Maoists near Pusuguda Chhak at Hatamuniguda under Muniguda police station limits in Rayagada district.

Informing the media here, Bisamkatak SDPO Anant Prasad Mallick said the Maoists, in a bid to disrupt the Republic Day celebration in the district and to inflict casualties on the police and the Central forces, had planted two landmines weighing about 10-12 kgs each near the road at Pusuguda Chhak at Hatamuniguda early on Tuesday morning.

“After we got the information, we cordoned off the area and informed the CRPF personnel accompanied by a bomb disposal squad, who rushed to the site this morning, located the two lanmines and diffused them,” he added.

The SDPO said after torching a JCB machine and a tractor used for road construction work at Daliakuji village, about 3 km from Hatamuniguda, late on Monday night, the Maoists had planted two landmines underground at a roadside at Pusuguda.
