Tata Steel-owned Sukinda mine bags National Safety Award

Bhubaneswar: Sukinda chromite mine of Tata Steel has bagged the National Safety Award for the “longest accident-free period (LAFP) in terms of man shifts worked during three consecutive years ending with the contest year-2012” under the Metal Mines-Mechanised Opencast category.

The mine was selected for the award by the National Safety Award (Mines) Committee of Union Labour ministry. Rajesh Patel, mining chief at the mine, and Gouranga Das, general secretary of Sukinda Chromite Mine Workers’ Union, received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a function in New Delhi on Mach 20.

Earlier also, the mine had received the 15th Annual Greentech Environment Award-2015 in gold and silver category of Metal & Mining sector for demonstrating highest level of commitment to environment management and best practice.
