Parsuram Satpathy murder: Two accused get SC bail
Bolangir: The Supreme Court today granted bail to two accused involved in the brutal murder of Parsuram Satpathy, a young leader in Bolangir, on November 29, 1974.
The two accused—Prasanna Pal and Artatrana Singhdeo—would be released from Bolangir jail after the jail authorities receive the release order from the apex court.
The Bolangir police had registered cases against nine accused for their involvement in the murder of Satpathy who was run over by a jeep on November 29, 1974.
The accused were let off by the local court in Balangir and later by the Odisha High Court.
However, following the directive of the Supreme Court, the High Court on May 5 this year had convicted the accused after a gap of 40 years and awarded them the life term.
Since six accused had died during the period, the three living accused— Prasanna Pal, Artatrana Singhdeo and Dhobei Podha—were remanded to Bolangir jail.
Of the three accused, Pal and Singhdeo later moved the apex court which granted them bail.
