Nursing home sealed in Berhampur
Berhampur: A private nursing home has been sealed here by Ganjam district administration for allegedly flouting the norms to operate the health care institute, officials said today.
Anand Medical and Research Center was sealed on Saturday as it was functioning without having valid license under the Odisha Clinical Establishments (Control and Regulation) Act and Bio Medical Waste Management (BMWM), said chief district medical officer Mrutunjay Mishra.
The nursing home was running without license for last five years, he said.
The administration had sealed five ultrasound centers in the town on June 19 for allegedly violating Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act.
Flouting of the norms in the clinic and ultrasound centers was detected by at least four teams of the administration during raids on June 12 led by sub collector (Berhampur) Nikhil Pawan Kalyan. The teams conducted raids in seven diagnostic and clinics in the town.
The administration had issued show cause notice to the clinic owner, but the reply was not satisfactory for which the administration has taken drastic action, said an officer.
During the raids, the administration had also recovered huge quantities of government supplied medicines from the nursing home. The drug inspector was conducting inquiry about the pilferage of government medicines to the private clinic, sources said.
“From Anand Medical and Research Center, we have found as many as 18 varieties of antibiotics and injectable medicines, which had been supplied by the government to the government run hospitals. The medicines were worth over Rs one lakh,” said drug inspector, Berhampur S.Biswal.
In another development, the district administration had debarred two private hospitals from treating patients under Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana (BKKY), a state government sponsored health insurance scheme following detection of irregularities.
