Harassment charges against SAI coach

Cuttack: A woman trainee athlete at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel here today levelled harassment charges against a coach.

In her written complaint at the Mahila police station, she alleged that her coach Sushant Roy had been harassing her mentally and physically for past several days.

“Initially he was torturing me. Today morning he called me and beat me in front of all my colleagues for no fault of my own. He dragged my head brutally and beat me on my back,” she alleged.

Her parents who assisted the athlete to the police station too criticised the coach for his misbehaviour.

“No teacher has any right to beat students even if he or she does not study. How the coach dared to beat my daughter?” asked the mother of the woman athlete.

The coach however denied the allegations.

In his defence Roy said that he had slapped her two times only to teach her proper behaviour.

“As a guardian I slapped her twice. Because, I couldn’t tolerate others would complain against her whom I had brought to this place. I only wished that her concentration should be on her performance and not on other things,” Roy said.

Police have begun investigation into the matter.

Sources said a case under Sections 354 (A), 323, 294, 506 and 34 of IPC and Section-10 of Protection of Children Sexual Offence Act has been registered against the coach.
