Gana sikshyakas to gherao Naveen Nivas tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of gana sikshyaks scuffled with the police during an agitation at the Lower PMG area here on Tuesday.

The teachers, who have been sitting on dharna for the past couple of days demanding regularisation of their jobs, tried to march towards the secretariat in the morning, prompting the police to block their way. The teachers tried to overpower the police and break the barricade, but failed.

The Odisha Gana Sikhyaka Mahasangha has said it will gherao chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence tomorrow to press their demands.

“We are completely in the dark about the decision taken at the ministerial sub-committee a few days ago regarding our job. We only demand that the jobs of those who have completed six years of in service as gana sikshyaks should be regularised. If the chief minister fails to take a decision today, we will continue our strike and lay siege to Naveen Nivas tomorrow,” a striking teacher said.

“Teachers from all 30 districts have joined hands with us in the agitation. This time, the State government has to take a decision about our service,” said another.
