Mayurbhanj/Angul/Bhawanipatna: As many as five persons were killed in separate road accidents in Mayurbhanj, Angul and Kalahandi districts on Wednesday.

In Mayurbhanj, three bikers were killed after a speeding truck ran over them on NH-18 at Dantimuha Chhak near Betnoti in the district. The deceased were identified as Dhan si, Gal Si and Mang Si of Rangapani village. Sources said the trio was on their way to attend the funeral of a relative when the mishap occurred. Soon after the incident, the truck driver fled the spot and tension prevailed in the area. On being informed, police reached the spot and pacified the locals.

In NTPC's Kaniha plant area, a labourer died when a vehicle loaded with iron-batteries turned turtle at Number 3 Cruiser House in the plant site. The deceased has been identified as Akshay Mishra of Chendipada area. Following the incident, resentment grew among labourers with the workers’ association demanding a job and compensation for the family member of the deceased.

After being informed police reached the spot and held talks with the workers and sent the body for post-mortem.

In another incident, one biker was killed and two others sustained critical injuries when two motorcycles collided near Tini Chhak in Kalahandi. Later locals rushed the injured to Dharmagarh hospital.
