Soro: Lab assistant dies in scuffle between student groups
Soro: In a shocking incident, the laboratory assistant of UN College in Soro in Balasore district died while trying to mediate between two clashing student groups.
The deceased has been identified as Ratikanta Behera. College principal Bijay Mohapatra was also injured in the incident.
According to sources, there was a clash between two groups of students yesterday. The students were staging a dharna in the college today when Ratikanta, accompanied by the principal, went to the students to broker peace between them.
However, a fresh scuffle broke out between the students while the two were talking to the warring groups and both of them were caught in the middle of it. The scuffle left Ratikanta dead and the principal injured.
“The clash between the students broke out yesterday after which a disciplinary committee was set up. The disciplinary committee recommended that a staff council meeting should be convened today for which we had to suspend the classes. However, ahead of the staff council meeting, some students stated a dharna in front of the Principal’s office. As far as I know, another group of students demanded to know why the agitating students were not being asked to leave the college after the suspension of classes. Soon, a scuffle broke out after which we found Ratikant was lying on the floor. We took him to the hospital where he was declared dead,” said a professor of the college.
