Dacoit injured in encounter; shifted to SCB

Bhubaneswar: Dreaded criminal Suresh Gajendra sustained bullet injures on his leg in a police encounter at Nuagaon in Khandagiri area late on Friday night.

Acting on a tip off, a special squad of police raided Nuagaon area where Gajendra and his another associate were allegedly hatching a plan to commit a crime in the area.

When the police tried to nab them, Gajendra opened fire at the team. In reply, the police fired back at Gajendra inflicting bullet injuries on his right leg, police sources said.

A seriously injured Gajendra was first admitted to Capital hospital and later shifted to SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack, the sources added.

The associate of Gajendra, however, managed to escape from the spot during the encounter.

The police also seized a pistol, live bullets, a bike and Rs 15,000 in cash from Gajendra’s possession.

Notably, Gajendra is main accused in Gandhamunda old couple loot case. Besides, he is also wanted in Bhubaneswar Chandan Jewellery loot.
