Curfew relaxed for two more hours as peace returns to Bhadrak

Bhadrak: As normalcy is returning to the trouble-torn town gradually, the district administration has decided to extend duration of curfew relaxation by two more hours from 2 pm to 4 pm.

The decision came after a review of the situation in the town, Collector Gyan Ranjan Das said.

Earlier, curfew was relaxed for seven hours, from 7 am to 2 pm to allow people procure essential commodities. Educational institutions, banks and government offices have also remained open in the town today. Medince stores will remain open till evening because it is very essential for the people. Decision on the restoration of social media, which has been blocked, will be taken after peace returns completely, Revenue Divisional Commissioner (central) AB Ota said at a press meet.

He added the damage suffered by the poor people due to the prohibition order will be assessed and steps taken accordingly to compensate them.

Ota had visited several schools and colleges in the morning and taken stock of the situation. All transactions at banks and government offices are normal, he pointed out. “I found hundred per cent staff attendance at school and colleges. But, students attendance is only 30 to 40 percent. I hope the it will rise in a day or two”, Otta said.

Confidence building measures are being taken to restore complete peace in the city and periphery. “A meeting will be convened with the peace committee very soon where the media will be kept away. The outcome will be shared later at a press conference after conclusion of the meet. We have also discussed with various leaders about the measurs which would help restoring complete peace and tranquility in the town”, he added.
