Bombing case: Court rejects Mahima’s bail plea

Cuttack: The district and sessions court on Tuesday turned down the bail plea of arrested industrialist Mahima Mishra in a 2013 bombing case near Press Chhak here.

This is the third bail rejection in a row of the Odisha Stevedores Limited (OSL) chief who was denied bail by the court in two different cases recently.

Mishra had moved the court seeking bail in the case on January 16. The Twin City Commissionerate police have already interrogated the industrialist in connection with the incident after taking him on a three-day remand. One Ganesh Sahu of CDA area in Cuttack who has been arrested in the case had revealed to the police during interrogation that the bomb was hurled at the behest of Mishra, police had said.

On 12 January, the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court here rejected bail of the industrialist in connection with an attempt to murder of a lawyer in the millennium city. Mishra had sought bail on medical grounds. In the bail plea he had said he was suffering from stomach-related ailments, chest pain, back pain and other illnesses. As he would require medical help, he had prayed the court to grant him bail.

Yesterday the Jagatsinghpur district and sessions court had turned down the bail of OSL boss in relation with the murder of Seaways Shipping and Logistics Private Limited (SSPL) General Manager Mahendra Swain.

A criminal Ganesh Sahu of CDA area in Cuttack who has been arrested in the case had revealed to the police during interrogation that the bomb was hurled under Mishra’s direction, police had said.

According to reports, bomb was hurled at lawyer Abhay Bhatt near Press Chhak here on September 21, 2013 in an attempt to kill him. Mishra at that time wanted to purchase a piece of land worth Rs 72 lakh but it was Bhatt who succeeded in buying it. Getting furious over the incident, Mishra might have directed to hurl bomb at Bhatt, police suspect.

Mishra has been arrested on charges of the murder of Seaways Shipping and Logistics Private Limited (SSPL) General Manager Mahendra Swain in Paradip.
