Body of minor girl found near Railway track
Jajpur: Police recovered the body of a five-year-old girl from the railway tracks in Panasia village near Jajpur-Keonjhar Road railway station on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as the daughter of Lumby Lohar, a daily labourer. Police suspect that the girl was raped before her body was dumped near the tracks.
Jajpur Road Police said Lumby and his wife Manju are daily wage earners. While Lumby works out of the district, Manju works in the village. On Sunday, Manju had gone for work in the morning as usual and upon return found her daughter missing. After a frantic search, she found her daughter’s body near the railway track.
“It is suspected that the girl was raped and then strangulated to death. The body would be sent for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” said IIC Rajiv Lochan Panda.
An FIR was registered but no arrests have been made so far though the police had detained four persons in connection with the case when reports last came in.
